This is not what anyone thinks... Well it might be I don't know. This is NOT a plug about a new diet, or about me trying to lose weight, or about my weight loss goals. This is actually a Bi*ch session.

Hmm. Ok. Yes I am trying to lose weight - but then again what American isn't. This country has become so obsessed with weight. Am I fat? seems to be the question on everyones mind - however nobody is addressing the am I too thin question..

I remember in middle school and high school we had classes about health and eating right. All classes included the obesity issues - but they also talked about anorexia and bulemia. I fear that with the focus being on getting children and adults healthy we are neglecting the children who are the right weight and they are starting on that dangerous road to being too thin.

Ok - what started this rant. I'll explain. I have been looking at healthy ways to start a life style change. One big way for me will be to curb my calorie intake. However, I want to do this the right way to make it a life style change not a yo-yo diet. I have been doing research on how to calculate the number of calories a person needs for basic body function based on height, weight, age, sex, and activity. I have discovered that for me I need about 2400 calories a day to maintain me at my present height and weight. So for me to lose weight based on what I have looked I could drop to about 2000 calories and need to start exercising. None of this is news to me. I've been taught this and told this most of my life. But there are somethings you have to just reach that point by yourself.

My rant starts from some of the comments I am reading on websites that provide these calculations for you when you plug in the right numbers. There are adults and adolescents commenting and asking for advice. One comment was this "I am 5'4 and weight some where around 125 pounds if i want to weight 105 pounds how many calories should i eat a day??" I looked up this BMI. Currently this person's BMI is 20.9 (right in the normal weight category) - the lower weight puts her at 18.0 in the underweight category. Another comment was " if it was so dangerous to eat less than 1,000 a day then why does the calculator tell me i need to eat 920-1120 to lose weight? cant be that bad. thats 5'5" and 115 pounds that i typed in. and the lower the weight goes, the less they tell me to eat - calculator shows as low as 800 something calories per day"

These make me ill. I did leave a comment about less that 1000 calories is usually a medically controlled diet with lab work and all. But the comments were making me sick to my stomach. Numbers have become an obsession. Why should a 5'5" person weigh less that 115 lbs? I don't understand. I did write in my comment on this particular site that if you have a pudge or flabby arms that toning and sculpting might be what you really want because weight loss is not going to make a certain area shrink you lose all over!!!

I don't really have a number in mind accept for a size for clothes. And on top of that it isn't something unrealistic. For those of you who read this and know me - I am not aiming to be a 4 or 6. I would look and BE sick at that size.

Now that I have put in my two cents. I want to ask for comment, criticism, or rude gestures. I would like to know that the rest of the world thinks about this....

Weird Weather

Ok - so for this Louisiana girl the warm Christmas was nothing new - although a little disappointing.

But snow TWICE in March is weird - even for Arkansas. Wow really has been a while this time. I don't even know where to start.

Ok. Lets start with before Christmas. LP graduated from college. (GO LIL SIS!!) I actually got to come down with the fella for the graduation.

Christmas was nice. The fella had to work so I went home for the week with the puppy (that lil black dog is now 9 months old and 35 lbs I'll have everyone know!!). Had a great christmas.

Birthday was birthday.. Got a new camera. Now I'm 28. I guess I'm in the late 20s now.. It be depressing. I'm almost 30.. WOW.. ok enough with the self reflection.

Qualifying exams (aka Comps, or DCE) were Jan 7 & 8. I will not know how I did until next week sometimes. I'm worried, but I'm allowed to do that. This is basically a comprehensive final exam for ALL my doctoral classes. I can not continue if I don't pass.

Ok enough on that. The fella and I have celebrated 1 year together. Yea for us!!

The biggest thing on my list for 2008 is looking at maybe getting a house. Looking at getting healthier.

Ok - I think I"m done. Have a great weekend. So you have to see which shows you want to watch at camp out at that stage.

Anyway - It was fun. The little princess (LP) came up and went with me and the fella. See Pictures.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_II2Nm6LlFMg/RkkYlLOrByI/AAAAAAAAAAk/zX1hFqeX0lg/s320/P5130001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5064606282903389986" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_II2Nm6LlFMg/RkkXl7OrBwI/AAAAAAAAAAU/JxmbumY36LY/s320/P5130002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5064605196276664066" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_II2Nm6LlFMg/RkkXyrOrBxI/AAAAAAAAAAc/zs91vyxoiYE/s320/P5130004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5064605415319996178" />

No this isn't a midlife crisis - just something I've been wanting. The joke with my parents is mom trying to explain to dad that I wanted a toy. He didn't understand until mom referred to his boat. He has two modes of transportation. I do too - I kept the other car and this is my fun one! Since then dad has laid off, I've been referring to my little car as "my boat".

I'm working on names and I like something like the U.S.S......

Any suggestions.

I"ll see ya'll later!

Here comes peter cotton tail

Ok - I have to do it.. I know my sister will kill me but I HAVE to put this out there.

So we are little and still sharing a room. I'm probably 9 (or 10) so that makes LP (Lil Princess for those of you who don't know the family nicknames) around 4 (or 5). Anyway the tradition was to put out the Easter Eggs in our bed rooms. We set them out and arranged them how we wanted them. Then went to bed. I was on the top bunk. We would stay up a little while talking but I wanted to go to sleep so the EB would come. LP started asking questions.

LP "When is the Easter bunny gonna come?"

Me " When you go to sleep.. now be quiet."

Silence

LP " Are you asleep yet?"

Me - " No.. but you need to go to sleep.."

Silence

LP - " What if I wake up while he's in here..?"

Me- " You won't .. go to sleep."

Silence

LP - " But how do you know.. I don't want to wake up while he's in here. "

Now I had no idea but I was just trying to get her to be quiet and go to sleep.

Me - " He sprinkles magic dust on you so that you stay asleep while he's in here."

Next thing I know - panic ensues.. LP is screaming at the top of her lungs, mom and dad come running in... Everyone is asking what is wrong. I have NO idea.. and finally..

LP (sobbing) - "I'm scared the EB is going to come, sprinkle magic dust on me, and I'll never wake up....." sobbing...

I got ugly looks from both my parents and we had to move the eggs into the living room.

That is the story. We never kept eggs in our room again.. and to this day I tease her about it.

Another day, another dollar

Ahh... Been a while. Hello friends. I have been busy lately. But the most important reason I have not been blogging is MY COMPUTER DIED.. (funeral march in the back ground.) So I had to get a new one and didn't do that until last weekend. I have only had this beaut for about 1 week. I'm enjoying it so far, and will be picking up the harddrive from my old laptop this week.

Anyway - hope everyone had a great christmas. Mine was fabulous. I got to see and spend time with family and friends. I also got to be LAZY which is one thing I enjoy during the holidays. I had realized that I am in my last semester of classes and hopefully will start my dissertation next august. (WOW that is scarey) Where did the time go??

I also had a good birthday for anyone keeping up. I have turned 27 which places me squarely in the "late twenties" category. (Heavy sigh). For this birthday, my parents bought me diamond earrings.. (Go MOM and DAD!!!!)

Mom came up after the 1st and brought a friend. We had a blast shopping and such. She had also been up prior to Christmas to go see the King and I here in town. It was pretty good and we both enjoyed it.

Hmm what else is going on. New Years Eve itself SUCKED>... but not due to any one person - more due to situations out of my control. Social scene is picking up a bit and dating is picking up a bit.... other than that same old same old.

Well I just got in from work. I'm going to grab a bit to eat and then head to bed.

Night!

Things on my mind.

Well that is a leading title isn't it. I know that it brings up many things that may or may not be talked about. I will first start with a few prayer requests. I have an old friend in town whose sister in law passed away last week. Please keep B & T in your prayers (the husband and young son) as well as the Js (the family in general). The best way to explain it was said by the preacher "Expected Shock". She had been ill for a long time.

Another prayer request is also close to my heart. A dear friend of mine has a younger brother (who is also the wife of another friend) who is a Second Leut. in the Army. He was married this passed summer and shipped to Iraq this Sept. or Oct. We recently recieved word he was injured. He has been shot in the neck. There is no apparent spinal cord damage - but at last report he had little to no feeling in his legs. Please pray for this family as well (The Es.).

Another thing on my mind is friendship. I have a horrible schedule. Between work and school, I know that it is difficult for me to see friends who come to town, and it is difficult for me to see friends when I go home. But while saying this, I feel like I make the most effort with some of them. I know my schedule isn't the best - yet I do have Friday nights free. I will discover weeks after the fact that friends came to town on Friday night and stayed all weekend but I don't get called. Also - I don't have to work on the weekends until lunch time - but I never get called to have breakfast or brunch when friends are here. They never stop by work to see me or anything. I don't understand this - and it hurts my feelings. Part of my wants to excuse it because I know I am one person and that can be easily overlooked in a group of couples - but then again - this is the group that swore nothing would change when everyone got married and I stayed single. Part of me thinks that I am usually not with this group when they come to town (because of my schedule) so it is easy to overlook seeing if I am avaliable - yet - I make the effort to call people at work and makes plans to see them when I'm in their city.

Don't get me wrong - it isn't that I think I make the only effort and they make no effort. I just feel like when they are in my town - I get forgotten when everyone is visiting because I'm working. When I'm home - everyone makes a great effort to see me because we don't get to visit often. I can't change my schedule - but when people I love are here I am willing to sacrifice a few hours of sleep to see them even if only for 1 or 2 hours. Yet I don't feel that I rank that high on their lists.

Yes I know I'm whining - but sometimes a girls entitled. I love my friends and family very much and miss that I can't be with them on a daily basis. I think that is all on my mind for now.

Later -

Onward and Upward

Hello to everyone. Ok lets see where to start. School has started but I can't pay for it because I didn't get all my loan info turned in on time. So we have deferred payment and hope that it comes in the next few weeks.

Everyone here is starting to freak out about comps (big test to take before starting dissertation)! I don't take this until next August but I think we are going to start a huge study group to help pool information for it. This test is scary if you get between 70 and 80 on a part you can retake that section orally, lower than that and you must wait and retest the next sememster. (YUCK!!)

On another note - two old friends of mine tied the knot last saturday (YEA FOR SHERRI AND DANIEL). I can't believe they are married. In addition to that, I found out that a wedding I was in (as a bridesmaid) is falling apart. I hate that so just everyone pray for K & P.

Other that this news I'm just trying to make ends meet and do school work.

Later

The Light....I See the LIGHT!!!

Ok...ok...ok... I know it has been forever and a day since I wrote. Its been a busy summer and since my internet is irritable I haven't has consistent access. Hmmm. Ok lets see - Been home (LA) 3 times this summer. Twice for a visit and once for a funeral - family friend (she was 90). Anyway. The most recent visit was last week. I had a blast and got to see pretty much everyone. The kids are all HUGE!!

The big trip this summer was MEXICO. It was fun. I slept in the sun and in the hammocks. Sigh I wish I had a hammock. Anyway Was there for a week and loved it - but I think next time I'll try a different location.

School starts next week. (YUCK) On the up note I can see the light at the end of the long long tunnel that is grad school. This should be my last year of class work then my dissertation will be next year! YEA! I think this is the first year that I've actually kept my new year's resolution!

Ok - see y'all later!

Pity Party

Yes- this is exactly what the title says. A pity party!! So lets start at the beginning...hmmm. Week was ok. Had a little bit of school work - editing a paper and posting online - nothing too big. My friends had their first baby. I decided I would go see them Thursday. She is BEAUTIFUL!! and a total darling..

Anyway - after I left their house I ran some errands and did some things around town and noticed my throat was hurting. No biggie - the weather is messy and sometimes my allergies cause a sore throat. When I finally got home, I watched some TV and looked at my throat. One tonsil was a little red and swollen - but no big deal... (so I thought!)

I was a little cold so I just went to bed. When I got up Friday - my throat was KILLING me.. I called for an appointment with my doctor and got in for that afternoon. I had to get a thermometer. One the way to the doctors, I was running a temp of 103!!! No wonder I felt bad. Anyway - I have strep throat (yuckie)!

So I stayed home from work Saturday - but I can't take off Sunday too because I dont' have that many sick days..

Ok - so that is my pity party!!

On another note - just a warning. Mom went to see Uniter 93 and said it was filmed similar to the Blair Witch Project. She said she was so sick to her stomach she had to leave.

Anyway - I'm going to keep being pitiful. I have until 9am tomorrow before I have to stop!
Later

Marching to the beat of my own.....

Hello to everyone. I know it has been a while since I wrote. For anyone keeping count - I've been on my diet 10 weeks and I've lost a total of 28.6 lbs. I've very excited. I haven't changed into any smaller sizes (stuck in that inbetween stage) but I'm optamistic (sp?). Anyway - I was talking with a friend in town and we realized I've lost the equivalent to what her baby (16 month old) weighs. Wow! That really put it into perspective cuz he's heavy!!

Other than that, school is going only a few more weeks and I'm finished. I can't wait! I'm looking forward to the summer time.
I'll write more later!

And it continues....

Hello to everyone... Been a very busy semester. Note to self - don't take 12 hours.. BAD idea. I have since dropped a class and I can breath much easier now. Life is going ok . Still on the diet - I've lost a lil over 20 lbs and that makes me tickled pink! School is school but next week is spring break and I can't wait. I'm going to try to go see my parents and a few friends. Ok lets see. School is off to a bang. I'm enjoying classes and I even went to a conference for school (and work). The conference was interesting but it was the first time that I've done the professional conference. It was fun. We (my classmates) had a great time and I even got to see an old friend from high school (very briefly though!).
I'm thinking about getting a dog. I don't want anything very big so I'm trying to decide what I want. I'm waiting for life to mellow out a bit more before I get one. I might actually wait until the summer so I have the whole summer to spend at home. We'll see. I haven't really made up my mind yet.
I also started a new diet. It is a medically supervised diet through the medical centers. I've only been on it for a few days. It is an all liquid diet for a few weeks. I'm hungry. But I have a great hope.........I'll let you know.

Later to All!

Ready or not here I come!!

Wow! 2006 I can't believe it. I seems like just yesterday I was amazed it was 2005.

My week at home was great. I got to see all my friends and some family. The kids are getting big and they're pretty funny. They liked their presents and I enjoyed seeing them play with them. I stayed until Dec. 30th and then drove back so I was home for my birthday. I got some money, and a cake. I have asked for a framed picture of my grandparents - but that is going to take while to get.

As for the fella, I did have lunch with him the day after Christmas. It was ok - but awkward. He basically whined and complained about poor pitiful him and all the stuff going on in his life. Part of me wants to say "Get over it!" Try not getting any days off (like going to school 5 days a week, and working weekends) and then complain about not having time for your hobbies! Oh well - I know I'm better off.

I'm planning on starting a diet (surprise surprise) but I'm going about it a medical way. We'll see - I don't start until Feb 1st (it is a program).

I did get my grades and they were fine. I got all As (yea for me) so I feel good about that. I'm taking 12 hours this semester but I think they are mostly internet classes and that will help.

Anyway - life is good. I'm off until Jan 17th so I am enjoying sleeping in and not doing much. Being lazy is SOO much fun!!!
Later

Silver Bells......Silver Bells.....It's Christmas Time in the City

Hehe. I love that song. Ok - lets see. It has been a while since I typed. As of the last time, I was seeing the fella but he was starting to get in my nerves because he always griped about me working weeekends. I had decided to give him until school started back to see if he would straighten out (this wasn't not his only fault - but whining isn't attractive on a 30 yr old). I got an email Christmas day (WHILE I"M AT WORK) and he says he wants to be friends. How cowardly is that?? I mean come on be a man and call me.... the only thing I can think of is since my birthday is next week he didn't want to do it on my birthday. Oh well - I'm not really upset (More my pride is hurt because I was going to give it time and he beat me to the punch). I deserve better than that. I need someone who can deal with me being in school, working and having just a little bit of free time. *Sigh* Remember the days where Prince Charming was supposed to ride on a white horse and you could identifiy him easily? It sucks to grow up sometimes.

Other than that christmas was interesting. On the 23rd I was to take a friend to the airport early so I stayed at her house the night before. When I got up I managed to fall down the last 3 steps in her apartment and I think I broke my tailbone.. That HURTS in case you didn't know. I had to buy a donut to sit on . It is very sad. My family came up on Friday night and we got a chance to visit. ON saturday, I got put on call for work and spent a little time with them, but I finally have to go into work around 3 om, but I did get to go home early because they didn't need me after 7pm. Sunday was christmas - It was great. We got up early and did presents and stockings. I had to go to work at 11 but that was plenty of time for the festivites. Work was busy busy busy, but I"m done for another week.
I plan on going to Monroe tomorrow to see the friends and play Santa for the children. That will be fun because I love these people. I think I might actually go to Natchitoches on Tuesday and see some people I went to high school with since they will be at their parents. I plan on coming back either wednesday or thursday. My birthday is wednesday and i don't know what I am going to do for that day. Maybe just head out of town. That could be interesting - I think i owe my sister a road trip.

Anyway - I'm going to head to bed - tomorrow is to be a busy day. Later!!
Laura

And the final grade is....

Well, that is really the question isn't it. I don't know what the final grade is nor do I know what it might, could. or will possibly be. I have a horrible week a few weeks ago because I was getting so much constructive critisism that I didn't feel like I got any positive critisism. That sucks huh? I thought so.

Ok what's going on.. Mom thought she was having a heart attack - they think it was indigestion but the meds for indigestion didn't help any more than the meds for a heart attack. So who knows? She has some follow up in a few weeks to see if there is something else going on.
This really scared me - for one I was out of town. I know this is strange because I don't live in the town she lives in anyway - but I was out of my home town. Anyway, so I did not find out about it until after she was admitted. Plus I never have considered my parents mortality.
I know that sounds weird but I hadn't . They are mom and dad and they are going to be here......well for a while. I mean I know they will eventually die but not anytime soon. They don't have gradkids or health problems, or anything else like that. So it worried me and I know it scared my dad some too. I guess he always figured that mom would out live him so this was a wake up call.

Oh well, on a positive note. Still no baby... Not mine of course but a friends. She is due and ready to pop. I have taken the stance of Sunday. I claim dawn until Midnight Sunday.

I'm still seeing the Fella. He went home with me for thanksgiving and that was interesting. he did fine and my family did fine but still it was interesting. I never know how those situations are going to go. We are making plans for me to try and meet his mom (his dad died a few years ago), but it is hard with my schedule. He and I tend to agree on most things which is nice, but when we disagree on things it is major. Not a fight just a major difference of opinion. I haven't decided how I feel about that. I'm not really at a point where I can seriously look at this relationship and decided what I want from it. I know that sounds cynical but still it is true.

Other that all this school is technically done (YEA!!!) and I'm ready for the break. The plans for my holidays are clean house, and sleep. Sounds good huh. It was a comedy of errors. It was only supposed to be in the 50s - it got into the 30s. We brought stuff for a camp fire and to make smores - there was a burn ban. He forgot the side dishes for our steak. Just those kind of things - but it was a blast. We went to Blanchard Spring Caverens the next morning. It was beautiful. We are talking about going back to do the wilderness tour that is more like Spurlunking.

School is going great. Here we are in November and the thermometer was almost 80 degrees. Last I checked November was supposed to be a COLD or at least cool month!!! Oh well. Let's see -
Oh yesterday, the Fella and I went to Pinnacle Mountain. We decided against the main trail because of all the people, animals, and the fact that the warm sunny day just screamed SNAKES sunning themselves on the trail. So we went to the visitor's center and went hiking on the Rocky Mountain Trail (we took the east quarry lookiout trail also). The total length with both is able 2.5 miles. Not bad for a days walk! Then he brought me home and he had to go home for a repairman/friend to come over and look at something.
Afterwards, I went to dinner at a friends and had a blast. I eventually ended up at home slouching and watching TV and being a bum.
Today was my day with a high ick factor. Since I'm in grad school - I spend many days at different clinical sites. My site today was the STD clinic. Mostly I did/observed pelvics and such - just a high ick factor! I have to return next week but I will know more of what to expect and hopefully that will be ok.
Tonight the Fella cooked steaks at his house and we watched a movie. We stayed up late talking about work (both mine and his). It was nice. I'm back at home (have been for a while ) and am fixing to head to bed.
Tomorrow is a lazy day. I don't have clinicals (YEA!) and I'm not sure what to do with myself!!! I hope to enjoy it.

Hope everyone out there has a GREAT day and lots of great weather!!
After while crocodile!

Weekends and trips

This weekend I was lucky enough to get off of work. I was thrilled, I got to go home and see my family and friends. I also got Sunday off and decided to spend it being lazy. Well kind of lazy - I'm currently waiting for the fella to come get me and we are going to do something. I'm not sure what at this point - but something to enjoy a day off together. Anyway - Hope everyone else has a great weekend.
Later!

Two Week Crunch

This is exactly how it sounds. I am in my busiest time of the year. I think I have 2 more presentations and 2 more papers all due before 11/11/05. My survey is coming along well in clinicals. Today I found a way to export the file into a word file instead of manually inputting it. I was thrilled!!!
The fella came over tonight for a while. We went and ate and then came back to my house and watched Monty Python Seach for the Holy Grail. He had never seen it all the way through. It was funny (as usual). Any way, he was exhausted - he had been in a test for 8 hours today. Everyone keep praying that he passed his Professional Engineering Exam. He doesn't know how he did - he said he felt confident about the morning, but the afternoon had stuff on it that he had never heard of.
I will be Home next weekend - as far as I know. I'm looking forward to it. I know that I will be in for Thanksgiving, but who knows after that.
Well I think I'm going to go to bed now. I'm tired and I do have to work tomorrow.
Ciao!

Presentations

Well today I'm working on my presentation that I procrastinated on. But that is ok - I had a nice date last night with the fella. He cooked steak - we walked around the neighborhood. We then watched Ladder 49. It was fun - he's sweet and exactly what I need right now. I'll have to work on pictures at some point.

Currently I am taking a break from my work. Well don't get too worked up. I just thought I'd update this for friends who might begin to read it.
Clinical suck - I had to make up a 11 page survey for people at work (yes I am doing clinicals where I work - I can't get away from this place). Over 300 responded - but I had to put multiple open ended questions in the survey... which means... LOTS of data. Sigh - anyway.
Other than clinicals and trying to juggle class - I'm also trying to juggle dating. This isn't easy. Dating is truely getting harder and harder. We get to see each other at least once a week - but sometimes that is all. Oh well - I like him and he seems nice. I'm a bit cynical in that department..

Well I need to get back to work.
Later Gator!

Working woman and vacation days!

It is hard to believe that school is going to start next week. I was looking at my schedule and I will be almost as busy as I was last year. I will have a few days of clinicals and a few days of classes - but on one day I might have to be in the class room from 9am to 7:30 pm... with only 2 thirty minute breaks (unless of course the professors break us some).

It seems like only yesterday I got back from vacation, and that even seems a little sereal! I hope that I get sometime this semester to get away and I don't have to wait for the designated breaks for school holidays.

Work is work and it is going well. I like the new job, but I'm ready to be done with orientation so that I can only work 2 days aweek. Speaking of orientation - can you believe that people at the hospital say orientated instead of oriented. It's just one of those things like Rodney Parham is pronouned Pear um.

Anyway. I'm heading to bed soon. I'm sleepy and I get to be at work in the morning.

This is a picture of part of the Trevi Fountain.
